My Recommendation: Sam Sparro

Ok guys the wait is over, I’m back and back with God’s music, don’t worry I’m not gonna put you through a sermon by a religious leader or something instead this week I’m gonna recommend some contemporary pop songs talking about God.

First on this list is an artist who was born in Sydney, Australia but later moved to London to claim bucket loads of fame and fortune, he comes from a musical family his father wrote music for shows like Star Trek & Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, his mother played organ at a Baptist church and his brother is also a professional guitarist, he is Sam Sparro.

The song I’m recommending, Black & Gold, comes from his self titled debut album, which came out back in 2008 and won him several nominations. This song is one of the rarest of rare combinations, in that it is a Dance, Electro-Pop song which champions the conservative or religious view of life and questions the theory of evolution.

He didn’t shy away from the religious branding either and openly confirmed his faith in the following words:

“…It is about God, yeah ... I do like to have faith in something that is bigger than me…”

The song starts with lyrics like

If the fish swam out of the ocean
And grew legs and they started walking
And the apes climbed down from the trees
And grew tall and they started talking

I will not delve into what’s right and wrong though I will admit he does make a compelling argument, and gives a rare voice to the views which are generally considered outsiders and often outright ridiculed in the music world which is crowded with the liberal ideology.

Musically speaking it’s a catchy dance pop number with decent enough vocals and has been covered by famous acts like Katy Perry, Adele, Chloe Warren and Gary Go to name a few.
