Dope - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)

Today’s recommendation is a Rock redressing of a Pop classic from the 80’s by the band Dope from Villa Park, IL. Touching story behind the band’s formation, Edsel Dope singer / songwriter and founder of Dope was separated from his brother Simon Dope when their parents divorced, but the two brothers reunited as adults and Simon joined Edsel’s band.

The name of the band is a reference to their early days when they sold drugs to survive and purchase instruments. The band has released five studio albums to date and today’s song comes from their very first album.

Today’s recommendation is a cover of the smash pop hit You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) by the UK band Dead Or Alive, a number of diverse acts have covered this song in a number of different genres, Dope gave it a Rock, Industrial Rock to be precise makeover and in my opinion did a decent enough job, other notable covers are by Jessica Simpson, she brought the song to current pop standards and only used the chorus of the song, Indochine a French band also did a very good Pop Rock cover of this song, Thea Gilmore with Mike Cave also did a very good cover and gave it Folk Pop touch, in addition to the Dope’s cover I’ll put Jessica Simpson’s cover and Thea Gilmore’s cover here, for the Indochine’s cover checkout the Facebook page, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
