Today’s recommendation comes from Paris, France by this French electronic DJ who is also a music producer, owns a record label and has collaborated with the likes of Madonna, though his birth name is Martin Picandet but goes by the stage name Martin Solveig
Growing up Martin joined the choir at Petits Chanteurs de Sainte-Croix de Neuilly (The Paris Boys Choir) where he was classically trained and became a soprano soloist. At the age of 18 he became a DJ and a regular in Parisian nightclubs.

The song I’m recommending, Hello comes from his fifth studio album Smash, the song is a collaboration with Martina Sorbara vocalist of the Canadian indie pop band Dragonette. It was difficult to choose this song for my first posting after blabbering almost a paragraph and a half about how I love 80’s Rock and all, anyhow I will start with this song as this song puts me in a good mood every time I listen to it, the video is quite funny, since this is my first post it had to be in a celebratory mood and this song fits that bill and above everything my 4 year old loves this song and yells “HELLO” on top of her tiny lungs every time it comes in the song. The video of the song a bit too stretched and I would’ve loved to see Martina in it too, a bit about the video though it’s a webisode, first actually with further ones featuring other songs from the album Smash to make a complete movie, here’s the what he said about that,
“I’ve always been very interested by cinema and that’s how I decided to direct most of my music videos. But with the new SMASH project I wanted to take it to the next level as my ‘manageur’ Lafaille would say – it’s a very different approach from my previous albums, combining music and video at the same time, as I feel nowadays that you really have to give people more than just records. With SMASH I’m telling a whole story that would be a distortion of my reality with a mix of real characters, situations and absurd elements and figures. The episodes and the records all work together, the videos bringing people into my universe with at the end the release of the SMASH album.”
I’ll throw in the song without the video first and then with the video along with a live performance, here’s the song
