Lykke Li - Get Some

Continuing on with the International acts, today’s recommendation is again from the Nordic region, Stockholm, Sweden to be exact by the singer Lykke (pronounced Lick’ee) Li. As a child she moved around a bit living in several countries Sweden, Portugal, Morocco, Nepal and India.
Her music is an eclectic mix of cascading tribal beats, wonky, skittering keyboards and haunting vocals that range from the strident to the sultry. She uses a lot of instruments in her songs such as Violins, Tambourines, Trumpets, Saxophones and Cellos.
The song I’m recommending Get Some, comes from her second album Wounded Rhymes, it’s easy to confuse the lyrics as being about sex outright, however in an interview she explained the thought behind the song as
"A lot of people think it's about sex. But it's about power. I was reading the Murakami book The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, where she goes into this guy's mind by making him fantasize about her, so it's kind of like power play. As soon as a woman does anything, they seem to hit a nerve and its back to sex. At least men seem to think that."
I like the groovy tribal beats and the exotic sound of the song, the song successfully portrays the anger the power struggle in a soft subtle voice, I will put up three live performances here, but there are a ton of very good live performances available on youtube in addition to the remixes by Beck and Mike D (The Beastie Boys), if you are interested I will put them up on the Facebook Feed, do check ‘em out, here’s the song
